I've got an idea!

I was sitting down yesterday, thinking about my bills, and came into a little idea.  I live in a small apartment with my fiance and we share the responsibility of the bills.  Sometimes I look up little ways to save money here and there and I know that of everything I have said thus far, I am not the only one!  So, for those of you in my boat or who know somebody in said boat, I will be compiling everything that I research, find, and utilize into a short FREE book.  It will contain tips on living eco-friendly, a few 'greener' tips, and just tips in general to keep as much of your hard earned cash as possible.  Instead of scouring the Internet, you will have it all at your finger tips in one place.
And maybe, if I can find the best outlet for this, I will make it available not only to Amazon Kindle, but several other ebook outlets as well!

Just a fun and short little project to keep the writing muscles in shape.  Leave me a comment, tell me what you think about this idea, or my short story Danger Close (Available for the Kindle for .99c) or just say hello.  Have a fantastic day!

'Tis an Update!

Good afternoon bloggers, writers, followers and etc.
It's been just a few short (or rather long) days since my last post and therefore I am here to update!

First and foremost I hope that all of your Valentines day's went just as well as mine did.  I spent it with my wonderful fiance for dinner and a movie with a few of our other friend couples.
We also discovered that we won a trip to Cancun, Mexico for our honeymoon and are receiving free wedding bands.  What more could we ask for?

Now down to the nitty gritty.
As most of you know, there is never enough time for anything when you need there to be.  It's an affliction to writers as well!  Times are hard and in just starting out on a slow crawl up the giant mountain of potential success, it isn't paying the bills.  I find myself in a catch and having to pick up a second job, which in turn means...EVEN LESS TIME FOR WRITING.  It does not bode well to give up on dreams, however.  I have a sense of optimism that as long as I continue to put forth an effort (and keep paying my electric bill) some day the grind of daily life may shift it's position on my shoulders allowing for even just a moments worth of breathing room.  It is an attainable dream, like many others, but those my friends do not fall into ones lap, they must be made to come true!

End of the Weekend.

Wow, what a busy, busy weekend.  But alas, it is over.  Don't fret! They come once a week.
Anyway, this weekend I had a dream that sparked an idea for yet another book.  This time, however, it won't just be a short story, it will be a series of "chapters" released one at a time to the Amazon Kindle and hopefully other ebook outlets.
All of these small releases are just setting up the small stage (or soapbox) for my book, Her Eternal Darkness.
Follow me to keep up on the details! Tell your friends about me!  And check out Danger Close for the Amazon Kindle today! (Or tomorrow, there's always tomorrow =] )
Goodnight Folks!

Suspense!

Just throwin' this out there for those of you who are reading.
I am currently working (re-working, and re-working) a full length novella titled Her Eternal Darkness, oh yes, I do have more than the occasional short story up my sleeve.  The book can't be pinned to just one category as I often refer to it as a lesbian-vampire-semi-adult-tragedy-romance.  Let me toss a little description your way:

Follow the life of Shane McDunnah as she juggles the past, every-day life, and becoming an immortal.  Shane didn’t have much but a crappy job and an even worse apartment until she met Sophia who changed her life, forever.  Follow her life as she finds out what comes after “It can’t get any worse” in this story of romance, life and the after-life.
Sounds interesting doesn't it?  This is no "Gay Twilight" here folks.  No sparkling, No happily ever after style boy-meets-girl romance.  None the less, I can't wait to publish it for you all to enjoy.  I already have the idea for a second book but, in my opinion, one can't have a great second without an equally as great of a predescessor.

Anyway, if you will turn your attention to the right side of your screen you will see that you have the ability to share me on facebook and such and give me a +1 for you google+ users.  Or, you can just shirk me off to your friends for them to share instead.  But whatever you do, keep reading!

Danger Close for Amazon Kindle!

My first short story has been published as an eBook to Amazon.com in the Kindle store!

It is the final addition to the super-short posted yesterday but instead of approximately 750 words, it is now 1800 words with added descriptions and dialogues for you to better understand the book in a nutshell.

Danger Close by K. L. Jones (For only .99c!)
Sergeant Schulyer Lewis finds out just how much it takes, and how much it can take from you, to serve your country proudly during a time of war.

Now, to explain the inside of the proverbial nutshell that is this book.  It is the essence of sacrifice that the men and women of the U.S. armed forces face, especially on deployment.  It's underlying idea came from my short time in the U.S. Army before I was Honorably Discharged for an injury I sustained during Basic Combat Training.  I hope one day, I will be able to re-enlist and proudly serve once again, but for now I will enjoy my writing!

Just a follow up post.  Let me know what you thought of that super-short.  I'm currently adding to it to make it the length of a short story, then I will be putting that version up for sale on the Amazon Kindle ebook store for less than a dollar!

So please, follow me, give me some +1's, share my blog, comment, tell your friends about me, have them follow me.  I'm not just asking for followers, I'm asking for you all to help me be a better writer!

First Super Short

The heat was beyond descriptive words to her.  Leaning up against a much too short cement barrier to wipe the sweat from her eyes, but only all to quickly was she up again, running.  When it had all started, she as well as the other men and woman were dazed.  Now, coming back to reality she had assumed that was the purpose.
Sergeant Schulyer Lewis had been in charge of a rear detachment platoon awaiting orders to move forward once the road ahead was cleared.  It was her first go at the desert, but she didn't leave enough behind at home to warrant that sort of depression.
They thought they had fought off enough insurgents in the weeks prior to clear it out, make peace with the locals and work toward another green zone.  But today it seems, they were wrong.
First, an explosion, an improvised explosive device under the front right tire of the lead vehicle sent a shock wave through the rest of the convoy and scraps of twisted metal rained down around them.
There was no doubt the soldiers in that vehicle had died, these vehicles were not equipped for situations like that, but there was no time to dwell as gunfire rang out around them.  Sergeant Lewis leaped from her vehicle, eyeing other soldiers in the process.  A young man, Private Bowman, fresh out of basic but strong headed pointed at a building to their left to signal the direction of gunfire. She could hear the whine of bullets as they narrowly passed her and thumped into the ground, sending sprays of sand up all around her.
There were screams, explosions of simple hand grenades, gunfire, disorienting any hope of communication until they were all safely inside the adjacent and dilapidated building.
"Bowman, where the fuck is Ramirez?"  She didn't know it were possible to have a wave of panic on top of the panic they were all in.
Sergeant Ashley Ramirez had been with Schuyler since the beginning.  They went through Basic together, trained for the same MOS, were stationed at the same base state side and now were on deployment together but she was no where to be found.
Sergeant Lewis checked the faces of every soldier, counted twice but she knew Ramirez was out there somewhere.
"Sarge, I see her!"  Someone had shouted.  Following a pointing finger, she saw her, with a small signal mirror and the leg of her uniform was stained crimson.
"Smith, Johnson, Robertson lay down some cover once you see where those bastards are poking their heads out.  Bowman, your with me."  Sergeant Lewis took a few deep breaths before locking a clip in place on her AR-15, this model was much better than the Basic Training recycled M-16's.
Bowman stacked up behind her and tapped her shoulder for the ready signal.  Crouching low but moving quickly, they took turns firing up into the building while the other soldiers laid a constant barrage.  Ramirez looked panicked when they finally reached her but relieved just the same.
"You ok?"  Sergeant Lewis gave her a field medical once over before realizing the blood was just from a graze wound.
"I'm alright, Sarge."  She gave a typical Ramirez sideways smirk and Sergeant Lewis and Private Bowman hoisted her up.
Almost to the door, the gunfire was still constant but she had her whole surviving squad with her.  Sand was bursting upward from the ground in front of her, the thud sounds were close to them, too close.  Thump.  That one sounded different, wrong.  Ramirez went limp and the dead weight toppled the three of them to the ground.  The sand quickly filled with blood.
"Ramirez!"  Sergeant Lewis shouted.
"Sarge, we gotta move!"  Bowman was shouting too, in combat with the sounds.  She didn't know what to think as her stomach sank lower and lower.
"God Damnit...No, Ramirez!"  Tears began freely flowing down Sergeant Lewis' face.  Bowman reached across and grabbed her shoulder.

"Sarge, L.T. says company meeting in five."  She returned from her far off stare and sat back at her desk.  Just another flash back.
"Thanks Bowman." He nodded back that knowing look to her.  She sighed and tipped the frame of a picture face down on the desk.  Sergeant Lewis glanced quickly at the words on the back but she already knew what it said: Pvt. Lewis and Pv2. Ramirez, BCT Graduation.  As she approached the door, the flicked the switch of the office light, and closed the door behind her.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday everyone!

Yes, I do enjoy football and the spirit of the big game day and no, I'm not some stuffy writer.

I would like to start my first blog (I am aware it's the second technically, but oh well) by explaining a little bit about myself.  First, I am a writer by hobby but I also canoe backwards up stream of this economy with a day job as I am sure most of you can tip your hat to.  Also, I am open to constructive criticism as it makes even the greatest of writers better.  I'm not expecting to put up a short or a little teaser and pretend that it's God's gift to the writing world, my feet are firmly planted on the ground.  I don't have a particular favorite genre to read however most of my stories are sci-fi, fantasy, and the occasional adult themed romance.

My next post will be a super-short just to give you a feel of the imaginations I am trying to massage.

P.S. If you want to comment and give me an idea you'd like to see transformed into a super-short by yours truly, Please Do!
